Adult Members Sailing Lessons

Corinthian Sailing Club is an all-volunteer club, and all boats are privately owned, so we are not in a position to offer public sailing classes. However, we do offer adult sailing classes for new or existing club members, including Associate members. CSC is offering 2 adult “learn to sail” class sessions on Monday and Thursday evenings. The classes run from 6:30pm to 8:30pm for three weeks. The classes are $50, this includes six classes plus a Learn to Sail book. Training is typically in Flying Scots, Corinthians, and Lightnings, but other fleets may participate.

The 2011 adult classes are complete for the year. Next classes will be held in the spring of 2012.

Points to be covered include seamanship, leaving the pier, sailing upwind and points of sail, tacking, jibing, returning to pier, man overboard, and basic knots. The sessions will be on the water as long as the weather cooperates.

CSC members wishing to take this course must call or email Steve Comen (214-417-3864) to be signed up on the roster.  You may also contact Steve for more information.

Other potential avenues for private classes include:

Women On the Water

WANTED: WOMEN SAILORS INTERESTED IN IMPROVING THEIR RACING SKILLS. This multi-faceted course is designed for women who have some racing experience, whether as a skipper or crew, to gain confidence and experience on the race course. The goal is to develop a group of CSC women sailors who would be capable of racing in the Adams Cup or other major all-women regattas. This will be a great opportunity to try out several different types of boats, learn (or re-learn) rules and tactics, practice starts, practice mark roundings, set a race course, understand sail trim and, review points of sail.

The 2011 program is complete, but you can get a sense for the program below. We will post details for the 2012 program as soon as available.

There will be a nominal fee for this course and the informational meeting will be at 7 pm on April 7, 2011 at the CSC Clubhouse. The tenative schedule for 2011 is below. Meeting alternating Saturday mornings and Friday nights form May 14th to June 18th, 2011 ending with a racing seminar in early September.
