Long time club member De McCombs passed away on Monday, August 10th, after a long battle with cancer. She volunteered her time on a number of club projects. She was on the board of directors and conceived the First Friday Parties while she and Steve were Rear Commodores for Entertainment.
While still Assistant Director at the Dallas Zoo12 years ago, she encouraged the sailing club to start the Sailing for Rhinos fund raising regatta in conjunction with the Dallas chapter of the American Association of Zoo Keepers to benefit the preservation of the endangered rhinoceros. She was also instrumental in making the Leukemia Cup Regatta a success. CSC, in conjunction with the Dallas Corinthian Yacht Club, raised over $1 million to fight leukemia during the regattas 10 year run.
Although in remission for a long period, she was forced to disengage from her many volunteer activities earlier this year. De held a variety of management roles in the City of Dallas, and in retirement served at the Club's liaison with the City and the Club's representative to the White Rock Lake Task Force. She will be sorely missed for her warm and engaging personality and for her wise counsel.
