SUMMER YOUTH SAILING CLASSES
Summer Sailing Classes for 2008 are completed.
The summer Youth Sailing Classes have been scheduled for 2008 at CSC. Michael Gent will be the head coachthis year. Michael is a student and sailor at Oklahoma State and we are glad to welcome him back to CSC. Paul Denison will also be back as a coach after his freshman year at Oberlin. Both Michael and Paul hold Level 1 Certification from US Sailing.
There will be 3 class sessions: June 9 – June 20, June 23 – July 4, and July 21 – August 1. There will also be a 2 day race clinic July 7-8 before the junior race team goes to Houston for Texas Race Week. Recommended ages for the classes are 8 to 18; those younger than 8 often are not ready. Average class age is typically 10 to 14 years. The classes will be split into groups based on sailing ability. Classes will run from 9am-2pm daily. (Note that the extended day option that was available for the last several years is not being offered this year.) A maximum of 24 sailors will be enrolled in each class; enrollment will be on a first-come, first-served basis.
To register, please complete the class registration form and submit it and all registration fees to the address on the form.
Junior Race Team Practice
One of the goals for the junior program is to expand our junior racing participation. In the past we have had an informal ‘race team’; this year will have an official CSC Junior Race Team. The team is open to all junior sailors who have shown sufficient interest and ability to compete in regattas, subject to approval by the junior sailing committee.
In order to support the growth of the Junior Race Team, there will be race team practice sessions from 3pm-6pm Tuesday through Thursday during the same weeks when there are junior classes. The practices will be open to all Junior Race Team members and will be led by Michael and Paul.
There will not be an extended day option this year as we had in past years. Instead, there will be race team practice sessions from 3pm-6pm Tuesday-Thursday. This is open to all members of the CSC Junior Race Team. The Junior Race Team is open to all juniors who are interested in racing, subject to approval by the sailing education committee.
To register for the race team practice, please complete the race team practice registration form and submit it and all registration fees to the address on the form.

The "Rock-The-Rock” Regatta:
Texas Sailing Assoc. Youth Circuit Regatta
On March 31 - April 1, CSC will host a Texas Sailing Association Youth Circuit Regatta. The regatta will be attended by junior sailors 19 years of age and under from throughout Texas. For less experienced sailors, the Optimist Green Fleet will sail separately from the more experienced sailors. If you have never sailed in a regatta, you should give it a try. Everyone has fun, and in the Green Fleet you sail with other, sailors your age who are just starting out. Try it once and we guarantee, you will be hooked!! When published the The Notice of Race can be downloaded from the Texas Sailing Association Web site.
2007 Metroplex Junior Series
This series is a fun way to have your child introduced to racing and continue their sailing interests. CSC, together with other local sailing clubs, have gotten together to pool junior sailing to create a larger group.... for more information click here.

Use of Club-Owned Boats
Here are the rules for using the club-owned Optis and Lasers.
Volunteer Support
All youth sailing programs must have parental support to be successful.
For our program to thrive, we always need parents to volunteer for:
1. Rescue boat duty for Sunday afternoon sailing:
2. Help with maintaining the youth shed and equipment
3. Help with youth social and entertainment Activities.
4. Also, since CSCs youth program is focused on developing
youth racing sailors, we need parents who will support their child's
participation in local and statewide regattas. You do not need to
own your own boat, as CSC has club boats available for use in regattas.
For more information on how to volunteer contact Steve Comen
