2020 Junior Sailing Camps

Rock the Rock Regatta

The Dallas Parks  & Recreation Board just notified us this afternoon at 3 pm that summer camps at White Rock Lake are not allowed to reopen until June 8th (target date). Note changes to dates for Sessions 1 and 2 (5-29-20).

The Park & Rec Director has decided to present the reopening proposal for Rowing & Sailing summer camps at the Park Board meeting next Thursday, June 4th before giving approval.  Apparently, there are summer camp programs with many operators that also asked to reopen and he felt it was important to include the Board in the discussion.  He feels confident that they will be in favor and we should be able to begin our programs on June 8th. They apologized for the late notice.

As a result, we are changing our camp dates to start one week later as follows:

Camp Session 1 NOW June 8 - 19   (Two Week Session)
A - 9:00 to 2: 00 - General Camp - 8 years and up, all abilities $295. Register online .
B - 3:00 to 6:00 -Teen Camp - ages 13-18 all abilities $175. Register online.

Camp Session 2 NOW June 22 - July 3 (Two Week Session)
A - 9:00 to 2:00 - General Camp - 8 years and up, all abilities $295. Register online.
B - 3:00 to 6:00 - Race Camp for sailors interested in racing (8 years and up) $175. Register online.

Camp Session 3 (No change) July 13 - 24 (Two Week Session)
9:00- 2:00 - General Camp - 8 years and up, all abilities $295. Register online.

Please reply and let us know how you would like to proceed from the following options:

1) Stay in the same Camp Session you already registered for with the new dates.

2) We can also modify your current registration to only attend one week (June 8-12) of Session 1 A or B and pro-rate your registration fee, giving you a 1/2 refund.

3) Switch to a new session - let us know which one and we will change your registration.

4) Request a refund and we will get that processed as soon as possible.

If this puts you in a bind for childcare coverage next week, we may have some coaches that are suddenly out of work  if you would like to explore that option

On behalf of the CSC Board, we apologize for this change and appreciate your flexibility and understanding.

Please call Ellen Bryant at 214-762-0056 if you have any questions.

One must be CSC member to register. Contact our Education Rear Commodore if you would like more information.

CSC Youth Sailing Instructors:  CSC’s lead sailing instructors are all US Sailing certified and are also certified in CPR and First Aid.  They all have extensive sailing and racing backgrounds on the local and national levels.  We also use “Instructors in Training” who have extensive knowledge of the boats.

Boats:  CSC conducts classes in Optimists, Lasers (4.7 and Radial) and 420’s.  We match sailors to boats based on age, experience and size.

Age Requirements:  Sailors must be 8 to 18 years of age at the beginning of the camp.  Those younger are typically not ready.   The average class age is typically 10-12 in the morning sessions.

Please Note:

Membership Requirement: The CSC Youth Sailing Classes are provided as a benefit of CSC membership* and are open to the children and grandchildren of Regular Members and to the children of Associate Members.  The class fees cover only a portion of the total expense of the classes, with the club subsidizing the rest of the expense out of general funds. For more information on membership, click on the “Membership” link on the home page.

Nature of Youth Sailing Classes/Racing Program Activities: CSC is not a licensed or certified child care provider.  The Youth Sailing Classes, Race Team Practices and Racing Clinic are for the purpose of providing sailing instruction and coaching for sailboat racing, not for child care.  Our coaches are certified by US Sailing to provide sailing instruction, but they do not have any certification as child care providers.  CSC makes no representation that the Youth Class fee is deductible as a child care expense, or for any other purpose, on your federal income tax return. You should consult your tax advisor before you take a deduction for any membership, class or other fees related to CSC’s Youth Program.

* Club membership is open to any person of good moral character and of age 18 or older.

E-mail us if you need additional information.

Use of Club-Owned Boats

Here are the rules for using the club-owned Optis and Lasers.

Volunteer Support

All youth sailing programs must have parental support to be successful. For our program to thrive, we always need parents to volunteer for:

    1. Rescue boat duty for Sunday afternoon sailing:

    2. Help with maintaining the youth shed and equipment

    3. Help with youth social and entertainment Activities.

    4. Also, since CSC’s youth program is focused on developing youth racing sailors, we need parents who will support their child's participation in local and statewide regattas. You do not need to own your own boat, as CSC has club boats available for use in regattas.

For more information on how to volunteer contact Ellen Bryant at 214-762-0056C or by e-mail
